Tax Exemption Request
For Your Business
Tax Exemption Request
If your business holds a valid reseller's permit, resale certificate, or sales tax exemption certificate, you can order from DTF4Prints without paying sales tax. Here is how to set that up.
Last updated: August 2026 · K&Y, Inc. DBA DTF4Prints
Who qualifies
- Businesses with a valid state resale certificate or reseller's permit
- 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations with applicable exemption documentation
- Government agencies and educational institutions with state exemption status
Exemption is for resale, not for your own use
A resale certificate covers goods you intend to resell — transfers you press onto garments you sell on. It does not cover equipment, supplies, or products purchased for your own business use. Certifying otherwise is a misuse of the certificate.
What your certificate must show
Incomplete certificates are the most common reason an application comes back to us. Before you send it, check that it shows:
- Your business name, exactly as it appears on your DTF4Prints account
- Your business address
- Your seller's permit or exemption registration number
- The state or states the certificate covers
- A description of the property being purchased for resale
- A signature and date — unsigned certificates cannot be accepted
- Our details as the seller: K&Y, Inc. DBA DTF4Prints, 7379 Orangethorpe Ave, Ste C, Buena Park, CA 90621
California customers
California resale certificates are issued through the CDTFA. Form CDTFA-230 is the general resale certificate and is what most California resellers send us. Your seller's permit number goes on the certificate — the permit itself is not a substitute for the certificate.
How to apply
Create your DTF4Prints account first
The exemption is applied to an account, so the account has to exist before we can attach it. Use the same email you will order with.
Email your certificate
Send it to resale@dtf4prints.com with the subject line “Tax Exemption — [Your Business Name]”. PDF or a clear photo is fine.
Tell us which states it covers
Include the state or states your exemption is valid in, and the email address on your DTF4Prints account.
We verify and apply it
We review your documentation and apply the exemption to your account within 2 business days. We will email you when it is active — wait for that confirmation before placing an order you expect to be exempt.
Important notes
- Tax exemption applies only to orders shipped to states where your certificate is valid
- Orders placed before your exemption is approved are not eligible for a retroactive tax refund. Please apply before you order
- Certificates must be renewed when they expire — we will notify you 30 days before expiration
- You must tell us promptly if your certificate is revoked, expires, or your business ceases to qualify
- Exemption applies to your account only and cannot be used by another business or individual
Misuse is a legal matter, not a policy matter
Using a resale certificate for goods you do not intend to resell is a violation of state tax law and exposes you to back tax, penalties, and interest. We are required to keep certificates on file and to produce them during an audit. Fraudulent submissions will be reported to the appropriate state tax authority.
Wholesale accounts
If you are applying for a wholesale account, you can submit your resale certificate as part of that application rather than separately — just attach it to your wholesale email and we will handle both at once.
Questions about tax exemption
Email resale@dtf4prints.com with “Tax Exemption” in the subject line, or call us during business hours. We cannot give tax advice — whether your business qualifies for an exemption is a question for your accountant or your state tax authority — but we can tell you exactly what we need in order to apply one.
